Franchesse is a former equestrian centre, built of granite in 1869 and set at the end of a "no-through-road" on 32 acres of natural woodland and meadow in the foothills of the mountains of the Parc National des Volcans d'Auvergne. The gate has been recently created in the former barn. There is a large living room (23 x 18 approx) with corner kitchen, french windows and stairs to the landing. On the first floor there is a bathroom, bedroom and sitting room/bedroom, both with views over the forests and mountains. Mainly antique furniture. Country style kitchen and bathroom. Bedding and towels are provided. This holiday house swap in France is between the Auvergne and Limousin regions, approximately 50 miles WSW of Clermont Ferrand - just 20 miles approx from the new A89 motorway (Clermont Ferrand/Bordeaux) at Ussel. The Auvergne has breathtaking scenery - mountains, precipitous gorges, tumbling streams, many lakes and extensive wild forests and moorland. The Limousin is an area of lush and gently undulating pastures, famous for it's distinctive Limousin cattle and for the fine porcelaine of Limoges which can be found at the many factory shops which are open to visitors. From Franchesse you can walk through the woods to the village of Champs sur Tarentaine where there are several bars, restaurants, post office, bank, 2 butchers, patisserie, boulangerie, library, swimming pool, hairdresser, pharmacy etc.
