Buck Rut Hut is a cozy and charming cabin located in the artistic mountain community of Mentone, Alabama. Built in 1983 by a skilled craftsman out of timbers from a 100-year-old cotton mill, this hand-built cabin condenses a full kitchen, a full bath, a sitting area and loft bedroom into 700 sq ft of authenticity. Sleeps four with the fold-out sofa. The name Buck Rut Hut originated from an on-going battle the owner has had with an old white-tail buck that insists on establishing his territory right outside the kitchen window! Sip your homebrewed cafe latte quietly and guests are bound to see a number of deer ambling below the cabin's deck early evenings. A small TV with DVD player is provided, but selecting one of the intriguing books from the cabin library is the recommended evening activity. Nestled near the Tennessee/Georgia borders, Mentone is 45 minutes from Chattanooga and 2.5 hours from Atlanta. The cabin is one mile from Desoto State Park, providing access to hiking, mtn biking, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, birding, golf and even hunting for those inclined. Little River Canyon National Preserve is just a short drive away and features the largest/deepest canyon east of the Mississippi River. Forget what you "think" you know about Alabama, the waterfalls and natural beauty of this area will amaze you! Google the town of Mentone and learn about the year-round art/nature festivals, visit the authentic log cabin village shops or dine at one of the award-winning restaurants there. Mentone boasts Alabama's ONLY winter ski slope and is famous for its historic three-season camps for kids, so why not consider giving the kids/grandkids a camp memory while you enjoy one of the best kept secrets of the Deep South?
